How We Hire
To attract a diverse pool of talent, UpMetrics posts widely on various relevant job boards and across personal, professional, and alumni networks. Each candidate’s application (resume, short application questions, and cover letter, if applicable) undergoes an initial screening to identify if their background and experience closely matches the job requirements and key characteristics determined for the role.
Our hiring process is:
The interview process usually includes:
Our hiring process is:
- Transparent and Engaging: The interview stages are clearly communicated to candidates. To facilitate a personable experience with every team member you meet, all interviews are conducted via Zoom video conferencing.
- Fair and Consistent: Interviewers will complete an interview bias and hiring training on an annual basis. We follow a structured format with predetermined questions and standardized rubrics to ensure we are not wasting your time, we tackle the most pressing questions while allowing you to ask your own, and we calibrate as a team and compare detailed notes across all candidates. Immediately following the interview, each interviewer sets aside time to reflect on the candidate’s responses and fit for the role, and to reduce unconscious bias, feedback from the interview panel is only viewable to People Ops and the hiring manager once submitted.
- Thoughtful: Most importantly, we put our candidates first and recognize that your time is valuable. We pride ourselves on providing timely communication with all applicants to ensure they receive an application status within one week, if not sooner, of applying and ongoing communication with candidates who advance to the interview stages, regardless of the outcome.
- Thorough: To gather qualitative and quantitative data about how we can improve the overall candidate experience and increase diversity in our talent pool, we invite candidates to provide feedback and demographic information in a confidential survey.
The interview process usually includes:
- Screening Interview: Once a candidate passes the resume screen, they are invited to an initial phone interview to confirm their relevant experience, ability and excitement to do the job, plus salary and job expectations.
- Manager Interview: Selected candidates move forward to an in-depth interview with the hiring manager to dive deeper into their professional background and relevant experience by answering behavioral and situational questions.
- Work Sample: To further assess their ability to do the job, candidates have the opportunity to showcase their skills and knowledge by presenting a completed sample project (or a live coding session for an engineer role), designed to expose them to real-life responsibilities of the position they are interviewing for.
- Team Interview(s): Successful candidates meet with various UpMetrics teammates to learn more about our people and culture.
- Final Interview(s): Strong candidates meet with our CEO Drew, then connect with the hiring manager once more to ask any questions that surfaced during the interview process.
- References & Offer: Finalists are asked to provide at least 3 professional references who can speak to their background, experiences and skills, which helps us learn about candidates from a third party’s perspective. Pending successful reference checks, we will make an offer to the candidate who we believe has the right balance of experience, skills, and passion to be successful in their role and at the company.
